The Moravian Church is the oldest international Protestant Denomination in the world, established in 1457, sixty years before Martin Luther.  The Lancaster Moravian Church has served its community since 1746.

The worship services tend to be traditional and liturgical, with occasional splashes of bold, contemporary innovation.  With warm dignity and grace our service allows for the expression of praise to God.

Music has long been an important part of Moravian worship.  It was the first church to publish a hymnal.  The Moravian Church was also the first Protestant church to sponsor world missions, beginning in 1732, and continues to do so today.  We proudly regard three pioneer educators as the foundation for our reputation in Christian Education.  In the 1400s, Jon Hus translated and preached the scriptures in his native Czech language long before the German Reformation.  In the 1600s, Bishop John Amos Comenius had international repute as an education reformer, being the first to invent a pictorial dictionary.  And in 1700s, Bishop Nicholas Von Zinzendorf organized schools which exist to this day.

Moravians don't claim a "corner on truth". We see ourselves as one part of God's larger Church, with active congregations on five continents.

Motto of the Moravian church:

"In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; and in all things, love."
